Torii is our energetic, female Labrador/Golden Retriever Mix, family dog. She doesn’t produce litters - we had her spayed at 6 months old. She deserves honorable mention though because she is what got us in love with the Labrador Breed! When we moved out to the country, we decided we needed a proper country dog. After looking into breeds, we decided a Labrador would be best for us. She has been a fantastic, playful, family dog! She has been a great protector of our home and family since the beginning. Anytime we open the door she runs out before us barking like she’s clearing the premises for our safety! How ever she loves people so as long as a friendly person shows up, she’ll be your new best friend! She also has a couple neighbor dogs that she loves and gets excited when when they come visit! She’s also had strong retriever instincts. My favorite is how she retrieves our escaped cats. We try to keep them strictly indoors. When they sneak out, we tell Torii to “get them.” She goes and gets them by holding them down for us so we can get them! Her love, protection, loyalty, and friendliness got us hooked on Labradors for life! She has shown us the best of all that Labradors have to offer their families! We love her so much!

We unfortunately lost our beloved Torii to Bone Cancer in January 2023. It came on fast and aggressive. It was a hard sudden loss. We had her euthanized through the Animal Humane Society’s, Willed Body Donation Program. Through them the bodies go to the University of Minnesota’s School of veterinary Medicine for future veterinarians to learn from. I received an update from the UofM, and they were able to learn so much from her in many areas! It makes me proud that she could be a good dog this one last time by helping others learn! She is gone but her legacy lives on in Moonshadow Labradors! Torii was the reason we grew to love Labradors so much and why we got into breeding them - to share their love with other families! She was a fantastic first family dog! We will always love you Torii!
